“Kyriakos Mitsotakis will come to the Parliament apologizing. He clearly bears the political responsibility for the wiretapping”, stressed the press representative of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, Nasos Iliopoulos.
“When Mr. Mitsotakis admitted that there is political responsibility and for this reason the general secretary of the prime minister, Mr. Dimitriadis and the commander of the EYP, were removed, it is paradoxical that he himself is not responsible, who replaced Mr. . Dimitriadis and changed the law to put someone who did not have the criteria to be in the position of EYP commander”, emphasized Nasos Iliopoulos (“Real FM 97.8”).
He added that “they voted for an amendment – after the complaints of Thanasis Koukakis – so that the EYP does not inform the ADAE about the surveillances that take place”.
“What happened is not even a classic case of someone being caught red-handed. It is a travesty for the leader of the third parliamentary party to be monitored and for the Prime Minister to say that the monitoring was legal and that – allegedly – if he had known about it, he would not have he allowed it. Mr. Mitsotakis was caught with a whole herd on his back, such scandals all over the world throw governments”, he said characteristically.
“Therefore, we expect concrete answers from Mr. Mitsotakis in the Parliament. Which services hired the Predator malware? Who are the political figures being monitored – last week Kathimerini wrote about seven political figures. What are the reasons that led to the monitoring of Mr. Androulakis and Mr. Koukakis?”, noted Nasos Iliopoulos.
“Mr. Mitsotakis should resign and call elections, this would be normal for any normal European country,” he said.
He also emphasized that “SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance will obviously support the formation of a commission of inquiry by this Parliament, while the next Parliament which will have a progressive majority will conduct a preliminary investigation into this case”. He noted at the same time that “the Committee on Institutions and Transparency needs to be convened immediately, to which Mr. Dimitriadis and Mr. Kontoleon must come”.
Regarding the economic situation, he pointed out that it is another reason for the Mitsotakis government to leave immediately. “PPC announces a 62% increase in the retail price of electricity. At the moment, Greece is the country in which a household with two workers cannot make ends meet for the month. The current government bears a huge responsibility for this development”, pointed out Nassos Iliopoulos and added: “based on official European data, Greece has the largest increase in electricity prices for businesses and the third largest for households, in our country 99% of increases in wholesale are passed on to retail while the second country is Austria with 46%”.
“At this moment in energy, a huge robbery is taking place with the signature of Mr. Mitsotakis”, he underlined. “From the first moment we said that we had to follow the model of Spain and Portugal to deal with accuracy in electricity. Today energy prices in these countries are much lower than in Greece – we see here that accuracy in our country it is signed by Mitsotakis”, he said.
He also pointed out that “there must be a brave arrangement, which will include the cancellation of most of the private debt, which was born in the pandemic, in truly extraordinary circumstances”.
“History shows something simple: when prices don’t fall, governments fall. And this will happen in the next elections as well”, concluded Nasos Iliopoulos.
