N. Iliopoulos: The condemnation of the Russian invasion of Ukraine is clear

“The condemnation of the current invasion and violation of international law in Ukraine must be unanimous and clear,” SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance spokesman Nassos Iliopoulos told SKAI.

He stressed that “we must clearly support Ukraine so that the invasion can end quickly. Greece must assist with humanitarian aid and support the refugees.” He stressed that “also, we need to demand that there be no change of borders” as “this is very crucial, because in international law an example creates a rule”. In the same context, he stressed that “we are in an area where it is necessary, for all the reasons of the world, to uphold international law and to oppose any revisionist effort.” Beyond that, he said, “we consider the deployment of military equipment to be a dangerous move and could create problems,” noting that “not all countries are in our geographical position and not all of us face the risks we face.”

Regarding the discussion on Turkey’s stance and the new dangers that may arise in the region, Mr. Iliopoulos stressed that “current developments once again highlight the importance of the Prespa Agreement” and added that “New Democracy must “apologize for its stance on the Prespa Agreement, an agreement that stipulates that there will be Greek and not Turkish aircraft in the airspace of Northern Macedonia, a fact that contributes to the country’s defense shield.” He added that “SYRIZA proved that it could clash to safeguard the country’s interests when, during his rule, it expelled Russian diplomats, as there was evidence of their active involvement in organizing the mobilizations against the Prespa Agreement.”
