N. Iliopoulos: ‘The law of the ND on Natura areas is a climate crime’

An attack on the government was launched by the press representative of SYRIZA-PS, Nasos Iliopoulos who called “every day lost with the Mitsotakis government” and underlined the need for “political pressure and social mobilization for immediate political change”.

Continuing, he argued that “SYRIZA-PS is ready to claim a progressive governance from the first ballot, which will be done by simple proportionality and will be able to produce a government of cooperation”.

Speaking to SKAI Argolidas 102.3 FM, ahead of today’s party event in Nea Kios Argolidas, where he will appear as a speaker, Mr. Iliopoulos said: “We are expecting old and new members today at our event, and people who want to address the SYRIZA-PS to listen to them. We continue our political planning, developments do not allow us to be complacent.”

In relation to the timing of the elections, he said: “You cannot trust Kyriakos Mitsotakis as to when he will go to the elections. If he considers that there is a window of opportunity to go to the elections, he will go”, while regarding the prime minister’s exhortation to journalists to they are going on vacation, fill in:

“Normally, Mr. Mitsotakis would like today and tomorrow not to have a general update because the new tariffs for electricity are being announced. Just as the lie with the 600 euro power pass collapsed, the lie about abolishing the readjustment clause will collapse, since it will be incorporated on floating tariffs”.

Referring to the accuracy he said: “In the EU, according to official figures we are the country with the biggest electricity price rise for businesses and the 3rd biggest for households. Petrol here is the most expensive, the basic wage below 2010 levels , while the average number of employees covered by collective agreements is below 20%, when in the EU it is at 60%. In addition, in the 1st month of the tourist season, more than 5,000 people resigned, and we have more than 50,000 vacancies because in tourism as well the Mitsotakis government is making Manolades”.

As for SYRIZA’s tactics, he said: “Social discontent is very high and it is our responsibility to submit a specific program with the main axes of regulating the private debt that was born in the midst of a pandemic, and erasing part of it, converting the refundable advance payment into non-refundable – because a business that closes will open a new cycle of unemployment and the state will collect nothing – the reduction of VAT and the reduction of VAT on basic food items. Based on official data in the first five months of the year were up by €3.5 billion. In the midst of extreme inflation. What does this show? That the government is participating as normal in the looting of society.”

He also referred to the fires, underlining the National Plan proposed by SYRIZA-PS to deal with fires: “Prevention, strengthening of firefighting and forest protection, reorganization of civil protection and a new institutional framework are our proposals”.

He described as a “climate crime the law of the ND which dismantles the protection of Natura areas. Last year the management body in the Dadia National Park was abolished and unfortunately this year we see the results. The forest maps were abolished on the ND. In 2019 the government received a program with 4.5 thousand forest protection workers and dismissed them. He did not vote for the conclusion we brought for the reorganization of the civil protection but he made a structure that was empty”.
