The role of Education in achieving sustainable development and extroversion was presented by the Minister of Education, Niki Kerameos, at the international conference “Global Engagement and Empowerment Forum on Sustainable Development”. with a relevant announcement.
It is an annual international conference aimed at working together to achieve the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. This year’s conference was hosted online by Yonsei University in South Korea.
During her speech, Ms. Kerameos referred to reforms that have been carried out in the direction of sustainable development in Greece. Referring to primary education, she pointed out the 166 new Curricula as well as the integration of Skills Laboratories in schools, while in terms of strengthening extroversion, she underlined the introduction of English from the age of 4 in Kindergarten.
“We implement policies that are fully in line with the goals of sustainable development to ensure that all our students have the knowledge and skills needed to achieve them,” he said.
Ms. Kerameos described “the upgrade of Vocational Education and Training that is taking place among others and through its interconnection with the needs of society”, the announcement points out. As for higher education, the minister focused on “the extroversion of Greek universities and their connection with the international academic community.”
“It is important to integrate the concept of sustainability from primary education to university and lifelong learning. Only in this way will we ensure that our joint efforts will be effective, in order to achieve the goals of sustainable development”, concluded Ms. Kerameos according to the announcement.
Among the participants was former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
