N. Mitarakis is in Evros for a meeting with the 38 immigrants

Finally, he received the drama of the dozens of people who were stranded on an islet of the Evros, after they were detected by the authorities to have crossed to the Greek side of the river.

As ERT broadcasts, they were all taken to a first reception police station in order to follow their registration and identification procedures, while today they will be taken to the Fylaki Prison, where the Minister of Immigration and Asylum Notis Mitarakis will visit them and make statements. They are 22 men, 9 women and 7 children. One of the women is pregnant and was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

In his post, Mr. Mitarakis stated that the Greek authorities are taking all the necessary actions. He noted, in fact, that the immigrants who declare themselves Syrian are in good condition.

SYRIZA called on the government to explain the sudden “discovery” of these people, when it, through the responsible minister and official statements of ELAS, assured that no human presence had been detected on the island where they were trapped.
