The Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Mr. Notis Mitarakis, met today with the Minister of Welfare and Labor of the Bangladesh Diaspora, Mr. Imran Ahmed, in Athens.
The two Ministers discussed at length the ways to strengthen the cooperation between Greece and Bangladesh in the fields of legal immigration and the fight against illegal immigration.
Messrs. Mitarakis and Ahmed agreed on the need to promote legal channels in order and with immigration rules to the detriment of smuggling networks that endanger people’s lives.
In this context, the two Ministers signed a text of a declaration of intent for the establishment of technical talks between the two Ministries as well as for the conclusion of a memorandum of cooperation in due course, which will cover legal immigration and facilitate the return of illegal immigrants.
Minister Ahmed invited Mr. Mitarakis to visit Bangladesh in the coming months, in order to continue their productive talks.
After the meeting, the Minister of Immigration and Asylum stated:
“With Bangladesh, we seek to strengthen our coordination and cooperation in the areas of legal immigration and the fight against illegal immigration. We have found understanding and common will on these issues. I will visit the country in the coming months to continue the consultations “.
