N. Panagiotopoulos for ‘recognition of military service as pensionable time without prior financial burden on the servicemen’

The matter is beyond the competence of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (L.E.&K.Y) is responsible, answered the Minister of National Defense Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, to a question submitted to the Parliament (23-06-2022) 32 SYRIZA MPs on “Automatic recognition of the time of military service – as pensionable without prior financial burden on the servicemen”.

Mr. Panagiotopoulos clarified that “in order to deal with the issue raised, a clear legislative regulation is required. Although the proposed amendment may contribute to the further improvement of the pension legislation, reservations are maintained regarding its prospective acceptance, as in related requests – indicative as No. Pr. 38357/0092/10-5-2017/YO/GLK-, expressed the opinion that such proposals are contrary to the principles of equity and equality governing the entire insurance reform, given that uniform provisions and rules were established , so that all insured persons enjoy the same degree of pension protection. In addition to the issue of the recognition of military service as pensionable, it should be noted that the Ministry of National Defense (MIND), in the context of providing incentives to the youth for military service, promoted a proposal to reinstate the reduction, by 50%, of the redemption contribution for the recognition of said time as pensionable, the which was not accepted with No. Pr.D15/D΄/78493/13-10-2021/Y.E.&K.Y. with the above rationale, that is, that uniform rules have been established for the recognition of insurance periods for all EFKA insured persons. Therefore, the matter escapes the competences of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and the integrated Ministry of Labor & Social Affairs (L.E.&K.Y) is responsible”, he concluded.

The question was signed by the SYRIZA MPs: Vasilios Kokkalis, Eleftherios Avramakis, Tryfon Alexiadis, Theodora Augeri, Alexandros Avlonitis, Anna Vagena, Sokratis Vardakis, Kalliopi Vetta, Ioannis Giannoulis, Tania Eleftheriadou, Husein Zeibek, Nikolaos Igoumenidis, Emmanouil Spipadon, Lapas Thirapsan , Kyriaki Malama, Konstantinos Markou, Alexandros Meikopoulos, Ioannis Mouzalas, Konstantinos Barkas, Ioannis Bournos, Athanasios Moraitis, George Papailiou, Katerina Papanatsiou, Panagiou Poulos, Nektarios Santorinios, Panagiotis Skourletis, Panagiotis Skouroliakos, Betty Skoufa, Sokratis Dimolis, Nikos Familos Charitou and Georgios Psychogios.
