Respect for the environment, safeguarding labor rights and gender equality should be a priority for all companies, said Deputy Minister of Development and Investment Nikos Papathanasis at the “ESG Athens Symposium 2022”, which was recently organized by the Corporate Responsibility Institute (CRI) and the Palladian Conferences, under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
The deputy minister, according to an announcement by National Insurance, which was the gold sponsor of the symposium, referred to all the new development laws enacted by the government and directing companies to strengthen the ESG criteria.
The symposium highlighted the growing number of companies adopting the ESG criteria and investors closely monitoring companies’ compliance with them, while emphasizing the importance of the Corporate Responsibility Index, which is the first national ESG index.
It is noted that discussion panels were held with senior business executives. The Director of Corporate Communication, Marketing & Bancassurance of National Insurance Giannis Sifakis participated in the panel on “ESG Strategy as a Factor of Business Excellence: Good Practices, Challenges and Opportunities” and the discussion developed successful business cases, including National Insurance, which give special weight to the ESG criteria and prove that their implementation is necessary for the future.
It is recalled that the criteria ESG (Environmental Social Governance) are a set of standards for the operations of a company and emerge as an important passport for its development. That is, they are the criteria related to the performance of companies in environmental, social and corporate governance issues.
