Nana Caymmi goes to Intensive Care Unit with infection in Rio

Singer Nana Caymmi was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit to treat a urinary infection at Casa de Saúde São José, in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, on the afternoon of this Thursday (5).

The 83-year-old artist has been hospitalized at the unit since August 26. On that date, the hospital reported that she underwent a pacemaker adjustment and was medicated.

Nana is in her third hospitalization in a month. On July 26, the singer was admitted to Casa São José with a case of cardiac arrhythmia.

She received the pacemaker on this first occasion. The surgeon makes a small incision, about 5 centimeters in size, in the upper part of the chest, and an electrode is guided through the vein to the heart.

The singer was only discharged on August 13, remaining hospitalized for 18 days. With chest pains, Nana returned to the hospital on the 17th of the same month and underwent a cardiac catheterization, which was successful, according to the medical team.

The procedure involves inserting a very flexible, thin and long tube into an artery in the arm or leg and taking it to the heart. She was discharged from hospital on August 22, before returning to the unit less than a week later.

Nana Caymmi began her artistic career in the 1960s and became one of the greatest artists on the Brazilian music scene, with hits such as ‘Resposta ao tempo’, ‘Não se esqueci de mim’ and ‘Suave Veneno’.
