China cannot block foreign leaders who want to travel to Taiwan, US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said today after concluding her visit to the self-ruled island.
“Unfortunately, Taiwan has been prevented from participating in global meetings, most recently at the World Health Organization, due to the objections of the Chinese Communist Party,” Pelosi said, adding:
“While they can prevent Taiwan from sending its leaders to world forums, they cannot prevent foreign leaders – or anyone else who wants to – from traveling to Taiwan to honor its thriving Republic, highlight its successes and affirm the our commitment to continued cooperation”.
