Nancy Pelosi, former speaker of the United States House of Representatives, suffered an injury during a trip to Luxembourg and was hospitalized for evaluation, her office said in a statement on Friday (13).
Pelosi, 84, is the first woman to serve as speaker of the US House and was also the longtime leader of the Democratic Party in the Legislative House.
“While traveling with a bipartisan congressional delegation in Luxembourg to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Ardennes, Speaker Emeritus Nancy Pelosi suffered an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation,” Pelosi’s spokesperson said. Ian Krager, in a statement.
“Speaker Emeritus Pelosi is currently receiving excellent care from doctors and medical professionals. She continues to work”, he added.
The San Francisco congresswoman left the presidency of the Chamber — a powerful position, being second in line to the country’s Presidency, after the vice president — in 2023, but she continued in the Legislative House.
She was re-elected in November for another two-year term, starting January 3.

Nancy Pelosi played a key role in passing President Joe Biden’s $1 trillion infrastructure bill in 2022.
Additionally, she feuded with Donald Trump during her first four years in office, culminating in the moment she ripped up his State of the Union address on national television in 2020.
Pelosi has been a prominent figure in the US capital throughout a term spanning seven presidential administrations.
She served as Speaker of the House from 2007 to 2011, then resumed the role in 2019, when her party regained control of the House in the 2018 midterm elections.
Democrats lost their House majority in 2022, and Republicans will again have a slim majority next year when President-elect Trump returns to the White House.
