The big puffy white jumpsuits worn by Neil Armstrong and the other Apollo astronauts half a century ago are now out of fashion. The… haute couture of… Moon now calls for something darker, more comfortable that will suit men and women equally.
THE NASA, unveiled on Wednesday the new next-generation space suit specially designed and tailored for the astronauts expected to travel and set foot on the Moon in the coming years. The suit was designed by NASA in collaboration with the company Axiom Space.
The suit is black with blue and orange detailing, and Axiom Space noted in a press release that its suits feature an extra layer bearing the company’s colors and logo.
The boots have been reinforced with extra insulation to keep astronauts’ feet warm as they work in icy regions of the moon that never see sunlight.
The new suit offers a greater range of motion and one of its features is flexibility, while its special design can accommodate at least 90% of the male and female population of the US, according to NASA.

Axiom Space will develop, certify and produce the spacesuits, and the company will “test the suit in a space environment prior to mission.”

However, what was revealed is only the outer layer of the suit as the inside is a closely guarded trade secret of the company.

“Building on NASA’s years of research and expertise, Axiom’s next-generation spacesuits will not only enable the first woman to walk on the Moon, but will also open up opportunities for more people to explore the Moon than ever before,” added Nelson, among others .
