NASA: Lost communication with Capstone device

H NASA lost contact with the tiny Capstone rover, launched from New Zealand on June 28 bound for the Moon. The device is about the size of a microwave oven, and engineers at the US space agency hope to solve the problem and restore contact.

Weighing just 25 kilograms and costing nearly $33 million, the craft is to be put into a highly elliptical orbit around moonwhich has never before been tested and where NASA wants to place its under-construction lunar space station, Gateway.

Capstone is a precursor to future Artemis missions, which will allow the US to send astronauts to Earth’s satellite again, the Athens-Macedonian News Agency reports. Capstone’s trip to the Moon, if all goes well, is designed to be complex, so it’s expected to take about four months.
