Thus, NASA’s first asteroid sampling mission has completed its missions to Bennu and will bring its space booty home relatively soon.

On board the probe is a container with 60 grams of soil from the surface of a celestial body, which was collected from the near-Earth asteroid Bennu in October 2020.

The OSIRIS-REx probe headed for Earth on May 10. He has to travel 2.3 billion kilometers, twice circling the sun. Eventually, OSIRIS-REx will approach Earth and drop a container that will land in the American desert of Utah in September 2023.

NASA launched the probe in September 2016 as part of a mission to collect soil samples from the Bennu surface (1999 RQ36). This asteroid NASA classifies as potentially dangerous. Its chances of colliding with Earth in the next century are currently estimated at 1 in 2,700. The probe reached the asteroid in early December 2018.
