NASA’s First Public Meeting on UFOs – ‘Right Now We Have No Clear Data’

During an unusual public meeting in Washingtona committee of experts, entrusted by the NASA to examine the sensitive issue of unidentified flying objects, of UFOs the UFOsunderlined yesterday, Wednesday, the need to gather more data to explain these phenomena in the future.

“Existing data and eyewitness reports are insufficient to provide evidence leading to conclusions about the nature and origin of each incident,” said David Spergel, an astrophysicist who presided over these works. “We need high-quality data.”

A report is to be made public during the summer and will state how we will reach this result, as reported by the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency.

THE NASA had announced last year the start of this work on the unidentified flying objects and appointed October, 16 experts to conduct them. Among them are prominent scientists, but also officials of the American Civil Aviation Regulatory Authority (FAA) or the former astronaut Scott Kelly.

Their aim is not to examine one by one the events observed in the past in order to attempt to explain them. It is to make recommendations to the NASA about how he should study them thoroughly in the future.

The issue is very serious, the US space agency underlined: it concerns both national security and aviation security.

But it also arouses strong interest because of the word UFOs, UFOs, which creates many associations. The term has also been officially replaced by the term UAP (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena).

“At this time, we have no clear data to show that there is any relationship between the anomalous phenomena of unknown identity and alien life”stated David Greenspoonone of the scientific members of the committee.

For David Spergelthe difficulty in considering this question lies in the fact that some “are convinced of the existence ATIA‘, when others, at the other extreme, find the subject ‘ridiculous’.

THE Nicola Foxits executive NASAopened the meeting by condemning the online harassment faced by committee members.

“About 800 aerial phenomena have been collected,” said Sean Kirkpatrick, director of the Office of the Defense Department’s Office of the Air Force (AARO), on Wednesday. Nevertheless “maybe only 2% to 5%” of these are “truly non-smooth“, he said.

THE Kirkpatrick proceeded to show two videos. The first showed a spherical object seen in 2022 at Middle East and remains unexplained to this day.

A second video showed three spots that appeared to move back and forth in a puzzling manner. These were actually planes on an airstrip whose back-and-forth movements were caused by the observer’s own movements, he explained.

The meeting, which lasted for hours yesterday, was broadcast live through him Internet and a section of it was dedicated to questions from the audience.

This transparency was brought forward by the US space agency, which emphasizes the need to “destigmatize” the issue.

The commission’s work is based exclusively on public data, so that it can be discussed freely and everyone has access to it, underlined Daniel Evansresponsible at NASA for coordinating the study.

The astrophysicist David Spergel he added that classified information – not taken into account here – is often classified not because of the observed object, but rather to avoid revealing certain characteristics of the aircraft that photographed it (pursuit planes…).

In the future, observations should be gathered by specific bodies, multiple and well regulated, he said. However, he rejected the idea of a satellite dedicated to it.

Recommendations may instead include ways to better incorporate public input. The billions of mobile phones in Earth can provide useful data, especially if many photos are taken at the same time.

THE Mike Golda former NASA official and member of the committee, called for the creation of an office within the space agency dedicated to the issue.

But ultimately, what do we hope to discover? Perhaps new natural phenomena, some experts said.

According to David Greenspoon“if the NASA applies the same methodological rigor to the study of anomalous phenomena of unknown identity as he applies to the study of possible extraterrestrial life, then we will be able to learn something new and interesting, whatever the final explanation.”
