Natale, Laura, student: “He will be the first away from my family”

Laura is studying in Rome and has a tampon booked for Tuesday 22nd December at 9am. He also has a train ticket to Bologna which he probably won’t use. “Before the Christmas decree I had organized to return to my family for the Christmas holidays but day after day I developed the idea of staying here, where I live for study reasons”.

Laura is enrolled in the first year of Literature and Philosophy at La Sapienza University. «I would have liked to return to Bologna above all to be with my grandparents who are elderly.

I thought and rethought and I chose not to move for them too. The pandemic situation is constantly evolving and I don’t feel like taking any risks. What if I took the virus home, perhaps remaining infected during the trip? ».

After making the decision, Laura has organized for her first solo Christmas. «My roommate will leave so I organized myself to prepare me a good lunch and I will connect on video call with my family. Then a good movie, some music and the day will pass like this. Then I am not entirely alone, I have Milo with me, my beloved little dog ».

At Laura’s house a package full of good things from Bologna is expected to arrive. «It should arrive Tuesday morning, if the delivery date initially confirmed by the post office remains. And I really hope so because there are tortellini in there »laughs Laura. “But if they don’t arrive it will be an opportunity to learn how to prepare them.”

There are many off-site students in our country who have made the choice of Laura. Some out of a sense of responsibility, some because it is difficult to find train or plane tickets available at “normal” prices, and finally the provisions of the Christmas decree. «For me it will also be an opportunity to discover a Rome that I have never experienced. My family is fine and none of us have had Covid. We are lucky”.
