National Force operations in Rio are extended until January of next year

The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino, announced the extension of the National Force’s operations in the state of Rio de Janeiro until January 31, 2024. From this date, according to him, a new analysis will be carried out for a possible new extension.

Through a post on social media on Tuesday night (14), Dino stated that the extension was a request from the governor of Rio Cláudio Castro.

“At the request of the Governor of Rio, I have now extended the presence of the National Force in that State until January 31, 2024, when a new analysis will be carried out for a possible extension. Additional teams from the Federal Police and the Federal Highway Police will also remain in the State. And the Armed Forces continue to execute the GLO decreed by President Lula”, wrote the minister on the social network X.

The ordinance that authorized the National Force’s action in Rio was signed on October 11th and was valid for just 30 days.

The National Force’s operations in Rio began on October 17th. The approximately 300 agents work in partnership with the Federal Highway Police to carry out extensive patrols on federal highways in the state.

Furthermore, the Armed Forces continue to carry out the Law and Order Guarantee operation decreed by President Lula on the 1st. Agents reinforce security at the ports of the capital Fluminense, Itaguaí, in the Metropolitan Region of Rio, and Santos, in São Paulo, in addition to the airports of Galeão (RJ) and Guarulhos (SP).

On the 8th, the creation of the Integrated Committee for Financial Investigation and Asset Recovery was also made official in Rio de Janeiro, which provides for the fight against money laundering from organized crime. The committee is made up of members of the Federal Police, the Federal Highway Police, the Federal Public Ministry, the Public Ministry of Rio and the Activities Control Council.
