Convivated about ten days ago, the National Public Security Force arrived at the Pataxó and Pataxó Um Hãe indigenous lands in the far south of Bahia, on Tuesday (29).
The operation, which aims to support the National Foundation of Indigenous Peoples (Funai), will now have strategies, operations and logistics aligned at a meeting between the National Force teams and Funai representatives to start the work.
Among the strategies is the maintenance of public order, the protection of heritage and the guarantee of the security of traditional communities that inhabit these lands. In recent months, the region has been the scene of disputes related to territorial demarcation and also suffers from the performance of groups linked to organized crime.
According to the federal government, the number of agents involved in the operation, which follows the planning of the Board of the National Public Security Force (Senasp/MJSP) in coordination with the Federal Police and Bahia security agencies, will not be disclosed for security reasons for both agents and indigenous communities.
National Secretary of Public Security, Mario Sarrubbo, emphasized the importance of the arrival of the National Force in a region historically marked by conflict. “The performance of the teams demonstrates the commitment of Senasp to protect the vulnerable population and support Funai in strengthening the state’s presence in the area,” he said.
