The National Council of the Public Ministry (CNMP) launched a process this Friday (17th) to monitor and supervise the investigation into the murder and disappearance of indigenist Bruno Pereira and English journalist Dom Phillips, in Vale do Javari, in the Amazon.
The procedure was opened by order of the counselor Otavio Luiz Rodrigues Jr., within the scope of the Commission for the Defense of Fundamental Rights of the CNMP, of which he is chairman.
In a note, Rodrigues Jr. stated that he repudiated “the acts of violence” committed against Bruno and Dom. “Life and its conspicuous dignity are non-negotiable values and the defense of fundamental rights is an obligation of State institutions”, said the CNMP counselor.
A working group was set up to monitor the investigation of the crime. It will be coordinated by the prosecutor Sérgio Henrique Furtado Coelho, auxiliary member of the CNMP; and will have in its composition: the judge of law Luciano Nunes Maia Freire, advisor for inter-institutional support of the CNMP; and the members of the Working Group for the Defense of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and Traditional Communities, established within the scope of the CDDF: Júlio José Araújo Júnior, Attorney of the Republic, and Andre Paulo dos Santos Pereira, Prosecutor of the State of Roraima.
