National tourism grows 47.7% and earns BRL 15.3 billion in April, says survey

Brazilian tourism grew 47.7% in April compared to the same period last year. Revenue reached R$ 15.3 billion in the same month.
The data are from the FecomercioSP Tourism Board. According to the survey, the numbers were boosted by the Good Friday holidays, Tiradentes and the Carnival parades.

In an interview with CNN Radio the president of the Tourism Board of Fecomercio de São Paulo, Mariana Aldrigui, said that “there is very little left” to reach the pre-pandemic level, at least with regard to tourism made by planes.

“We are at 96%, we just didn’t go back to the pre-pandemic because of business tourism, many companies understood that having online meetings was more interesting.”

The positive result, as explained by Mariana Aldrigui, is related to the repressed demand: “It is an effect of almost 1 year and a half of people who postponed their travel plans.”

Mariana made a reservation, however, that the economic scenario does not guarantee a full recovery by the end of the year, although the result of the July vacation should be positive: “From August onwards, the scenario is uncertain.”

“Only this week we have a rise in the dollar, a rise in ticket prices and news from Europe of disarray, such as a lack of airport staff and strikes, these messages can disrupt Brazilian travel.”

According to her, “in domestic terms, the numbers are excellent, but in international tourism we are 40% below.”

Mariana also warned of the high inflation, which directly interferes with tourism plans: “When we separate value for travel, it is what is left over from food, school, etc., within the budget, if things are more expensive, there is less money to travel”.
