The NATO will support his government Afghanistan NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced today (13/8) at the end of the meeting with the ambassadors of the Alliance countries in Brussels, following the decision of Washington and the London to leave the country.
“NATO allies are deeply concerned about the high levels of violence being perpetrated by the Taliban operation, in particular attacks on civilians, targeted killings and information leading to other serious human rights violations,” the statement added.
“The Taliban must understand that they will not be recognized by the international community if they take the country by force.”
Jens Stoltenberg added that NATO remains committed to supporting a political solution to the conflict.
“Our goal is to support the Afghan government and security forces as much as possible. The safety of our staff is above all. “NATO will maintain our diplomatic presence in Kabul and will continue to adjust as required,” he said after the consultations.
“We continue to assess developments on the ground and are in constant contact with the Afghan authorities and the rest of the international community,” he added.
It is noted that Jens Stoltenberg convened a meeting of NATO ambassadors today in order to discuss the rapid deterioration of the security situation in Afghanistan and to coordinate national measures to reduce the staff of the embassies in Kabul.
