NATO member Denmark says Russian plane violated its airspace

A Russian reconnaissance plane violated Danish airspace, the country’s foreign minister, Jeppe Kofod, said in a statement posted on his official Twitter page on Sunday.

Kofod said the Russian ambassador had been summoned to explain the event on Monday, which he called “unacceptable” and “extremely worrying”.

“The Russian ambassador has been summoned for talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs tomorrow. Another Russian breach of Danish airspace. This is completely unacceptable and extremely worrying in the current situation.”

Similar violations were reported by Sweden last week and in April. Unlike Denmark, however, the country is not a member of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization).
