NATO pledges $40 billion in financial support to Ukraine ‘in the coming year’

The leaders of NATO member states decided on Wednesday that military aid to Ukraine will reach at least 40 billion dollars next year and will continue, as stated in the final communique of the summit in Washington. “We intend to provide $40 billion in core funding over the next year and provide sustainable levels of security assistance to help Ukraine prevail” in the war, the 32-member North Atlantic Treaty Organization said in a statement. The text announces the formalization and closer coordination of NATO assistance to Ukraine, creating a scheme dubbed “NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU)” and comes into effect tomorrow Friday. The text claims that NSATU “will not, under international law, make NATO a party to the conflict”. Source: RES
