NATO summit with Biden, where Ukraine was not invited, will be very short

The bulk of NATO’s Brussels summit, which is scheduled for Monday 14 June, will only last 2.5 hours. Joe Biden will take part in the meeting of the working group for the first time as the president of the United States. The schedule of events is published on the Alliance website.

 

From 10:15 am Kiev time, Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will meet guests at the entrance to NATO headquarters. The arrival of the heads of 30 delegations is expected from 11:30. Stoltenberg will officially greet them around 2:00 pm, after which a group portrait will be taken.

The working meeting is scheduled for 14:30 and will last until approximately 17:00. If the session does not drag on, it will be record short in the new millennium: earlier, several sessions were allotted to discuss the bloc’s strategy for the coming years, which could last up to two days.

15 minutes later, the NATO Secretary General will hold a press conference. The day before he saw Biden:

Ukraine was invited to take part in eight summits, Russia – six. In 2021, Ukraine was not invited.

Also on June 14, from 11:00 to 21:00, an online event “NATO 2030 at the Brussels Forum” on public diplomacy will take place in cooperation with the German Marshall Fund in the United States. This includes discussions with heads of government, international experts, representatives of civil society, the private sector and young professionals.
