Plans to develop a permanent military presence on its external borders seem to be being made by NATO so that it can deal with any future attack by Russiaaccording to what the leader of the alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, said in an interview with the British newspaper The Telegraph.
The NATO “It is in the midst of a very fundamental transformation,” which will reflect the “long-term consequences” of Vladimir Putin’s actions, Stoltenberg said.
“What we are seeing now is a new reality, a new normalcy for European security. “As a result, we have asked our military commanders to provide us with options for what we call a restart, a long-term NATO reshuffle.”said the Norwegian leader of the military alliance.
Mr Stoltenberg, who recently announced that he would remain Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization for another year, also told the Telegraph that final decisions on the changes would be taken at the NATO summit in Madrid in June.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine sparked the largest refugee crisis in the Old Continent since World War II and forced Western governments to reconsider their defense policies.
