And that today people like me, learning about his death through cell radios, perfectly describes the 180-degree turn my country started with this great man.”

“Gorbachev left power peacefully and voluntarily, respecting the will of the voters,” notes Navalny. “That alone was a major lesson learned by the parameters of the former Soviet Union. I believe that his life and history, which were of great importance for what happened at the end of the 20th century, will be evaluated by posterity much more favorably than his contemporaries. My sincere condolences to the relatives and friends of Mikhail Sergeyevich” he adds.
Alexei Navalny is serving a sentence in prison colony No. 6 in the city of Melekhovo in the Vladimir Region.
Mikhail Gorbachev co-founded the newspaper Novaya Gazeta and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990.
