Navy alert for waves up to 2.5 meters on the coast of SP and RJ; understand

The Brazilian Navy issued an alert for sea hangover between Ubatuba, north coast of São Paulo, and Arraial do Cabo, on the coast of Rio de Janeiro, with waves that can reach up to 2.5 meters high On the night of Friday (23).

Time instability is caused by the passage of a cold front, which favors the formation of loaded clouds and increased moisture in eastern São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The wind configuration after the system passes also contributes to the intensification of rain and agitated sea.

According to Climatempo, in addition to the hangover, it is expected to arrive the first major cold wave of the year between late May and early June 2025, bringing negative temperatures in southern Brazil, generalized frost and cold in the northern region.

This Friday (23), will be marked for severe time on the coast of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The performance of a cold front, combined with the strong moisture transport from the ocean to the continent, keeps the regions at risk for bulky rain.

The cities of the north coast of São Paulo and Costa Verde Fluminense, such as Paraty and Angra dos Reis, are on the most intense rain route.

Higher accumulated rainfall expected:

Rio de Janeiro:

  • Paraty: 60 mm
  • Angra dos Reis: 60 mm
  • Rio de Janeiro (capital): 25 mm
  • Nova Iguaçu: 25 mm

São Paulo:

  • Ubatuba: 60 mm
  • São Sebastião: 25 mm
  • Caraguatatuba: 25 mm
  • Ilhabela: 25 mm

On Saturday (24), the cold front begins to move away, but time remains unstable, with the possibility of weak to moderate rain, especially on the Rio de Janeiro coast. In São Paulo, rain will lose intensity compared to Friday (23).

Cold front

A powerful air mass of polar origin is expected to reach Brazil between late May and early June 2025, bringing the first major cold wave of the year. The information is from Climatempo.

The forecast indicates negative temperatures in the southern region, generalized frost and cold in the northern region. The continental advance of cold air mass, moving inside the continent, may cause low temperatures in areas of the Southeast and Midwest.

The cold wave can occur in two pulses. The first, scheduled for May 27, will bring rain over southern Brazil, advancing to other areas. The second in early June, should bring cold air to the Southeast and Midwest regions.

The first days of June may have low temperature records in the affected states of the South, Southeast, Midwest and North Parts, with the possibility of a new lower temperature record of 2025 in Brazil. In addition, there is a forecast of agitated sea and hangover on the southern and southeastern coast, due to the formation of one extratropical cyclone .
