Navy finds new object related to missing crew in Ubatuba

The Brazilian Navy located this Thursday (2) a new object at sea that supposedly belongs to one of the missing crew in Ubatuba (SP). This Friday (3) marks the ninth day of searches for the members of the twin-engine plane.

The object is of the “necessaire” type, with “belongings related to the missing crew”, informed the institution in a note. The object was collected by the vessel “Tarpon” and is under the custody of the Navy for inspection by the Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Cenipa).

At the end of the procedure, the case will be available to family members.

The Navy has been involved in the searches with the support of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), which is responsible for coordinating the operation. In addition to Tarpon, the Guajará Patrol Ship, the Tamanduá vessel and the H-36 Caracal aircraft are engaged in the search.

The accident

The twin-engine crashed in open sea near Ubatuba, on the coast of São Paulo, and Paraty, in Rio de Janeiro. The plane left Campinas (SP) around 20:30 last Wednesday (24) and would land at Jacarepaguá airport, in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, at 21:30. From 9 pm onwards, however, there was no further contact with the occupants.

According to the ANAC record, the plane could not operate as an Air Taxi, but was allowed to fly at night. Ownership of the aircraft is in the name of the co-pilot, José Porfírio. The inspection was up to date.

Authorities have already identified at the Instituto Médico Legal (IML) in Campo Grande, Rio de Janeiro, the body of Gustavo Carneiro, who was piloting the aircraft. The commander was only 27 years old and was born in Corumbá, Mato Grosso do Sul.
