Navy helicopter crash: what is known about the accident that killed 2 soldiers

Two soldiers died in an accident with a Navy helicopter on Tuesday (8). Another 12 were injured in the case, which took place in the municipality of Formosa, in the interior of Goiás, 80 km from Brasília.

Accident happened during training

The Navy reported that the accident happened during an exercise to quickly disembark troops in an “adverse environment” called Fast Rope.

The Armed Forces stressed that neither missiles nor heavy weapons were involved in the activity. There were 14 people on the aircraft, a UH-15 Super Cougar model helicopter, belonging to the 2nd General Purpose Helicopter Squadron.

The two soldiers who died are: Sergeant Luís Fernando Tavares Augusto, who served in the Marine Armored Battalion; and Sergeant Renan Guedes Moura, stationed at the Marine Corps Base on Ilha do Governador.
