“NCIS” star David McCallum dies at age 90 in New York

Actor David McCallum, 90, known for his role in the “CBS” series “NCIS”, died this Monday (25), according to the television network.

“He was the kindest, nicest, most patient and loving father,” his son Peter McCallum wrote in a family statement, provided by CBS. “He always put family before himself.”

McCallum died of natural causes surrounded by his family at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, CBS said.

“David was a talented actor and author beloved by many around the world,” the network statement quoted.

“He led an incredible life and his legacy will live on forever through his family and the countless hours in film and television that will never go away. We will miss his warmth and endearing sense of humor that lit up any room or stage he stepped on, as well as the brilliant stories he often shared from a life well lived.”

Born in Scotland, McCallum got his big break in the United States (after several roles on British television) in the 1960s spy series “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.,” playing Illya Kuryakin opposite Robert Vaughn’s suave spy. , Napoleon Solo.

McCallum received two Emmy nominations for the show and has worked steadily since then, including roles in the films “The Great Escape” and “A Night to Remember.”

He also starred in a memorable episode of the mysterious sci-fi anthology series “The Outer Limits,” “The Sixth Finger,” playing an ordinary man who volunteers to undergo a rapid-fire evolutionary advancement.

McCallum returned to television as the lead in the 1975 NBC series “The Invisible Man,” but the show, despite its groundbreaking special effects, lasted a single season.

His unlikely last act on TV came with the CBS crime procedural “NCIS.” McCallum played medical examiner Donald “Ducky” Mallard, an eccentric and skilled professional who served as the patriarch of the show’s investigators.

McCallum is survived by his wife Katherine McCallum and three sons (Paul McCallum, Valentine McCallum and Peter McCallum), his daughter Sophie McCallum and eight grandchildren.
