ND: SYRIZA distorts Metsola’s position on surveillance

New Democracy blames SYRIZA for distorting the content of the response of the President of the European Parliament to Mr. Papadimoulis.

At the same time, the ND accuses SYRIZA that in its attempt to find an opposition narrative, it “uses everything, without absolutely any qualms” and that it “adapts even the letter of the President of the European Parliament to its opposition measures”.

Nea Democracy and continues by quoting a relevant excerpt from Ms. Metsola’s letter.

“In Ms. Metsola’s letter, it is clearly stated that “I welcome the fact that in addition to the ongoing investigations by the relevant Greek authorities, the Greek Parliament is also investigating the recent revelations”. (At the same time, I welcome that – besides the ongoing investigations of the competent national authorities – the Greek Parliament is also looking into the latest revelations).

He also talks about the pan-European problem of illegal surveillance of politicians, journalists and citizens and emphasizes the need to take measures at the EU level. It even specifically refers to the Pegasus system, which is used in various countries.

(I am convinced that the work of the Parliament’s Committee of inquiry to investigate the use of the Pegasus and equivalent surveillance spyware will contribute to the overall efforts to bring to an end the illegal practices you are referring to, which reports indicate are widespread)” .

And ND concludes:

“SYRIZA, in its attempt to find an opposition narrative, uses everything, without any qualms at all. And adapts even the letter of the President of the European Parliament to its opposition measures”.
