A survey of CNN based on data from airports and bus stations in the city of Rio de Janeiro shows that almost 500,000 tourists are expected in the capital of Rio de Janeiro during the Corpus Christi , between the 15th and 19th of June. And, with that, the expectation of hotels in Rio de Janeiro is for an occupancy rate of over 85% in the period.

O Santos Dumon Airport t, managed by Infraero, expects to receive almost 190 thousand people during the long holiday. In all, more than 1,400 domestic flights will have the airport as a final destination, according to official data.

In the same period, the Tom Jobim International Airport, known as Galleon , will receive 70 thousand passengers. According to Riogaleão, the concessionaire that manages the airport, between June 15 and 19, 455 national and international aircraft will land in the city. The number represents a 280% higher movement compared to the same period last year.

By land, the number is even higher. Official data from Novo Rio Bus Station show that more than 207,000 people will arrive in the state capital in the next five days.

However, the number of people who will arrive via state highways may be even higher, since the survey of the CNN did not consider the tourists who will use their own cars.

THE CNN the vice-president of the Union of Accommodation Means of the Municipality of Rio (HotéisRIO), Jorge Chaves, highlighted that the date is significant for the sector, so that this movement can collaborate with the resumption of hotel chain .

“As this is the first big weekend since Carnival, expectations are very good and are already real. At the moment, the city’s demand is 85% occupancy, and the expectation is to reach 100% in the coming days”, said Chaves.

As in Rio de Janeiro, the rest of the country shows signs of recovery in tourism, after almost two years of Covid-19 pandemic . And, according to data from the National Confederation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC ), full resumption is near.

For the CNC’s chief economist, Fabio Bentes, the tourism sector has been reducing losses in relation to the most acute phases of the pandemic and the trend is for the segment to register again, within approximately two months.

“This recovery has been robust. Obviously, it is justified by the unfolding of the pandemic, by the drop in the number of cases and by the advance of vaccination”, said the economist.
