Neca Setubal: Culture can boost Brazilian economy next year

THE CNN Specialist Neca Setubal spoke about the importance of investments in the cultural sector, so that the sector can recover from the damage caused by the pandemic. She cited a UNESCO report, which points to more than 10 million jobs lost worldwide in the cultural area due to the pandemic.

“I believe in the potency of culture as one of the lifts for Brazil’s economy next year,” says Setubal.

She explains that several forms of investments can be made. According to her, the pandemic has brought about a revaluation of public outdoor spaces, making improvements in the infrastructure of these spaces necessary.

“Companies and foundations can be partners of the public power both in investments and in cultural programming”, emphasizes the specialist.

She explains that culture is key in connecting us with different groups, communities and countries. “It is through culture that we recognize ourselves as Brazilians.”
