Neca Setubal: It is important that young people can stay at university

CNN Specialist in social inclusion, Neca Setubal, commented this Thursday (12) on the creation of a pro-rectory at the University of São Paulo (USP) to centralize and coordinate the entity’s actions aimed at affirmative diversity policies.

For the specialist, the action is essential to discuss youth problems, among them, school dropout, especially in the midst of the pandemic scenario. “The main Brazilian university creating a pro-rector of inclusion and belonging is a very important sign that these issues are of fundamental relevance to the Brazilian political, social and educational context”, she highlighted.

On the measure, she stressed that the pro-rector has several axes of action and it is not a generic action, betting on concrete effects in the future. Campus life, mental health, racial and gender diversity and professional career are some of the highlights that will receive special attention from the university.

“Working on the memory of the different communities, of the regions of the country where there are students who are studying at USP, rescuing and recording this history is super important. USP is giving a very important signal to Brazil and other universities on how to work consistently, in the long term, with the issues of inclusion and belonging”, she concluded.
