The Netflix Limited Series”Welcome to the Neighborhood” Is doing cause people to flock to the neighborhood to see the real house and some residents are not happy about that.
According to local news, NJ.com, visitors are coming from far and wide to check out the house that inspired the series in Westfield, New Jersey.
“I just thought I would come because of how interesting the story was,” Pradeep Soni told the publication, who drove 25 minutes from his house to check it out. “The house is good. It’s not scary or anything.”
The streaming giant describes the series’ story as “the Brannock family moves into what was supposed to be their dream home in suburbia, but quickly becomes hell.”
“Sinister letters from someone who calls himself ‘the watcher’ [título original da produção que significa o observador ou vigia em português] are just the beginning, as the neighborhood’s sinister secrets spread,” reads the series description.
The production is based on the true story of the Broaddus family, who soon after purchasing the six-bedroom house began to receive anonymous letters that became increasingly threatening. New York Magazine documented its harrowing story in 2018 in an article entitled “The Haunting of a Dream House”.
The family ended up selling the house for less than they paid for it.
“We are all concerned for the family who live there now and their neighbors,” resident Trish Dulinkski told NJ.com.
“I can’t imagine how long it will take for people to lose interest before the neighborhood can get back to normal, nor can I imagine how many letters the poor current owners will get from crazies all over the world.”
“Welcome to the Neighborhood” was reportedly not filmed in the royal house at 657 Boulevard, but used a house in Rye, New York.
