The bestselling author Neil Gaiman and his wife, whom he is separated, were sued by a New Zealand woman who is looking for millions of dollars for alleged sexual abuse and human trafficking while working for them as a nanny, according to three lawsuits presented in Monday (3).
Scarlett Pavlovich said Gaiman, author of the “Sandman” comic series and the novel “American Gods”, repeatedly raped her as she worked for him and Amanda Palmer in 2022, causing physical, mental and emotional damage.
Palmer was accused of knowing that Pavlovich was vulnerable and not warning her that Neil Gaiman had a predatory behavior history, according to court documents.
The couple was quoted as a defendant in the Pavlovich process presented at the Federal Court in Madison, Wisconsin. Palmer is the only defendant in Pavlovich federal processes presented in Manhattan and Boston.
Gaiman has a property in Wisconsin and Palmer resides in New York or Massachusetts, according to the processes. He denied the allegations of improper sexual relations in a blog post in January, after media reports about the allegations.
“I never got involved in sexual activity not consensual with anyone. Never, ”he wrote. Gaiman was not charged criminally.
Palmer’s representative did not immediately respond to requests for comments on Tuesday (4). The processes seek unspecified damage that is “reasonably believes” that exceed $ 1 million ($ 5.8 million) on various accusations.
According to court documents, Palmer met Pavlovich in Auckland, New Zealand in 2020, when Pavlovich was 22 years old and was homeless, and was aware that Pavlovich suffered from mental health problems.
Then, in 2022, when Palmer and Gaiman were living separately on Waiheke Island, near Auckland, Palmer allegedly asked Pavlovich to start taking care of the couple’s son.
Desperate for money and housing, Pavlovich agreed, but soon Gaiman began to sexually abuse her, including raping her, strangling her and assaulting her in the presence of her son, according to court documents.
The abuse supposedly lasted several weeks until Gaiman and his son left for Europe. Pavlovich said Palmer told her that more than a dozen women, including several former employees, complained to her about abusive sexual encounters with Gaiman.
According to the court documents, Pavlovich presented a police report accusing Gaiman of sexual assault, but the police did nothing because Palmer refused to talk to them.
Allegations of misconduct against Gaiman began to emerge publicly in 2024, and Dark Horse Comics said last month that he would no longer publish his works. Gaiman’s comics and novels include Coraline, the cemetery book, beautiful curses and how to talk to girls at parties.
