Nepal: French “bikini killer” released for health reasons

The Supreme Court of Nepal today ordered the release of the Frenchman Charles Sobrage, the serial “bikini killer” who became known by the nickname “Reptilian» and is responsible for one series of murders in Asian countries in the 1970s.

THE 78 years old today Sobraz, who has been held in Nepalese prisons since 2003, convicted of murdering two American tourists, will be released for health reasons, according to a document obtained by AFP. “If there are no other charges against him to remain in prison, the court orders that he be released today and (…) return to his country within 15 days».

Sombraz, from an Indian father and a Vietnamese mother, had a difficult childhood in France and ended up many times in prison for petty crimes. In the 1970s he began traveling the world and found himself in the capital of Thailand, Bangkok. He used to approach his victims, befriend them and then drug, rob and kill them. In most cases, they were female tourists from Western countries.

After being released in 1997 he returned to Paris. But he reappeared in 2003 in Nepal, was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of American tourist Connie Jo Bronzic. Ten years later he was also found guilty of murdering Bronzic’s Canadian partner.

In 2008, while in prison, Sobraz married 20-year-old Nichita Biswas, 44 years his junior and the daughter of his Nepalese lawyer according to the Athens News Agency.
