The nephew of the former municipal secretary of Guarujá (SP), Thiago Avanci, reported the abuse during psychological counseling. The teenager has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and also has anxiety disorder.
The victim’s mother said her son felt safer at his grandmother’s house because of the yard and pets, but that the situation changed when the abuse began.
The police found a suicide note written by the accused, in which he confessed to having a romantic relationship with his nephew. Along with the letter was a flash drive with videos and photos of sexual content involving the teenager.
The teenager’s mother requested protective measures.
Disappearance and delivery of items
On September 7, Thiago Avanci’s brother went to the Santos (SP) police to report Thiago’s disappearance. In the report, he reported that he found a brown envelope at around 9 pm at the door of his residence. Inside the envelope were documents, cards and other personal items belonging to Thiago.
The former secretary left the car – with documentation and transfer of ownership to his brother’s name – at the door of the residence. The transfer documentation attracted attention.
Among the items left behind by Thiago was a handwritten letter and a USB flash drive. The contents of the letter indicated that Thiago planned to take his own life. He stated in the handwritten letter that he had left a life insurance policy for his nephews (his brother’s children), as well as funds related to ongoing lawsuits and other instructions regarding benefits at the university of one of his nephews.
According to Thiago Avanci’s brother, who filed the police report, he was aware that the former secretary had been suffering from depression, which was known to the family. The police reported that Thiago had already expressed his intention to take his own life, according to the police report filed at the Santos Police Station (SP).
Following the complaint, Thiago was considered missing by the Military Police.
Reporting sexual abuse
The 35-year-old former secretary was charged with sexually abusing his own nephew, a 17-year-old teenager with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The incident was reported on September 9.
According to the victim’s mother, the abuse had been going on since September 2023, when the boy went to live with his paternal grandmother and uncle, in the same house. The complaint came after the victim told the doctor that he was feeling pain and bleeding in his anus.
According to the recorded occurrence, the accused slept in an outbuilding at the back of the house, and took advantage of his proximity to his nephew to commit the abuse.
The victim spent most of his time in the outbuilding with his uncle, who had permission to travel with the teenager. The family suspects that the abuse also occurred during these trips.
