Netanyahu accuses France, United Kingdom and Canada to “encourage” Hamas

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused France, the United Kingdom and Canada wanting to help the Palestinian group Hamas after they threatened to take “concrete measures” if Israel did not interrupt their latest offensive in Gaza.

The critic, who echoed similar comments from Foreign Minister Gideon Saar on Thursday (22), was part of an Israeli government reaction against increasingly strong international pressure over him due to war in Gaza.

“You are on the wrong side of humanity and the wrong side of the story,” said Netanyahu.

As the flow of images of destruction and hunger in Gaza continues, feeding protests in countries around the world, the Israeli government has been striving to change world public opinion, which is increasingly against it.

“It’s hard to convince at least some people, precisely from the extreme left in the US and some European countries, that what Israel is doing is a war of defense,”

said Israeli former Diplomat Yaki Dayan.

He continued to say that, “This is how things are perceived in Israel, and filling this gap is sometimes an impossible mission.”

Pressure for the creation of a Palestinian state

Israeli authorities are particularly concerned about growing appeals for European countries, including France, to follow others, such as Spain and Ireland, in recognizing a Palestinian state, as part of a two -state solution to resolve decades of conflict in the region.

Netanyahu argues that a Palestinian state would threaten Israel and framed the murder of two Israeli embassy employees in Washington this week by a man who allegedly shouted “free Palestine” as a clear example of this threat.

He stated that “exactly the same song” was heard during the attack on Israel by Hamas on October 7, 2023.

“They don’t want a Palestinian state. They want to destroy the Jewish state,” the prime minister expressed in a statement on the social network platform.

“I could never understand how this simple truth escapes the leaders of France, the United Kingdom, Canada and others,” he continued, adding that any initiative of Western countries to recognize a Palestinian state “would reward these killers with the maximum award.”

Instead of promoting peace, the three leaders are “encouraging Hamas to continue fighting forever,” he said.

The Israeli leader, whose government depends on the far-right support, said Hamas, who issued a statement greeting the measure, thanked French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Stmerer, and Canadian Mark Carney for what he said was their demand from an immediate end to war.

Actions against Israel

The leaders’ statement on Monday did not demand the immediate end of the war, but the interruption of Israel’s new military offensive in Gaza and the end of restrictions on humanitarian aid.

Israel had prevented help from the Gaza range since March, before relaxing the block this week.

“In issuing his demand – full of threats from sanctions against Israel, against Israel, not against Hamas – these three leaders have effectively said they want Hamas to remain in power,” the prime minister said.

According to Netanyahu, “They give them hope of establishing a second Palestinian state from which Hamas will try again to destroy the Jewish state.”

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot stated that France, as well as the United Kingdom and Canada, classifies Hamas as a terrorist organization, is “unshakably committed to Israel’s safety.”
