Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu embarked for his four-day visit to Hungary on Wednesday night, challenging an arrest warrant of the International Criminal Court. The Court issued warrants against Netanyahu and other Israeli authorities for war crimes in Gaza.
Netanyahu, who faces a political storm in Israel with an investigation into alleged ties between Qatar and three of his advisers, should meet with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Thursday before a press conference around 7 am Brasilia.
Protesters gathered at Ben Gurion International Airport before Netanyahu’s departure, singing with posters and banners while travelers entered Terminal 3.
The visit will be the second he will make abroad since the International Criminal Court issued warrants to arrest him in November 2024, but the details of his agenda were limited, as well as a planned visit to a Holocaust memorial.
As a founding member of the ICC, Hungary is theoretically forced to arrest and deliver anyone subject to a court warrant, but Orbán made it clear when he invited Hungary not to respect the decision.
