The visit to Jerusalem by envoys Amos Hockstein and Brett McGurk was mainly aimed at finding a way to end the more than a month-long war between the Israeli army and the Iranian-backed Lebanese Shiite movement, as the US wants a deal struck framework before the American presidential elections are held next Tuesday, November 5. The head of American diplomacy, Anthony Blinken, assured last night that the talks “have progressed” but “we still have work to do”, calling for a “diplomatic solution” that would include a “ceasefire”.
