Netanyahu urges Gantz not to quit government – ‘We have to think about how to continue’

Benjamin Netanyahu appealed to war cabinet minister Benny Gantz not to leave the emergency government after the successful rescue of four hostages alive from Gaza. “This is the time for unity and not for division,” the Israeli prime minister told X. “We must remain united in the face of the great tasks before us. I call on Benny Gantz not to leave the emergency government. Don’t give up on unity.” Gantz, leader of the centrist National Unity party, sent an ultimatum to Netanyahu on May 18. It called for the War Cabinet to adopt a “plan of action” for the Gaza Strip after the war, or he would be “forced to resign from the government”, setting a deadline of 8 June.
