Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed his prediction that the main stage of the military operation against the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip will soon be completed. “We are nearing the completion of the operation to eliminate the terrorist army of Hamas,” Netanyahu said, welcoming graduates of the National Defense College in Jerusalem. “We will continue to fight the remaining (including Hamas fighters),” he assured. The Israeli prime minister also said that during the briefing he received from the heads of the 143rd division of the Israeli army – which operates in Rafah, on the southern edge of the Gaza Strip – he found that “very significant progress” had been made.
