Netflix announces 1st major reformulation in 12 years; See the changes

THE Netflix is about to go through its first major reformulation in 12 years . This Wednesday (7), the streaming platform announced changes on your homepage – The first since the current layout, released in November 2013.

In addition, the company will start testing searches with generative artificial intelligence support and a vertical feed of Tiktok -style videos aimed at mobile devices. Netflix stressed that these will be initially limited tests, ie not all users will have access right away, but the global test scale indicates a much broader effort.

The new TV Page for TV will be more elegant: the main menu will come out of the left corner and will occupy the center of the screen, similar to Apple TV. Content descriptions will be more compact and the most personalized recommendations, based on browsing behavior and at the time the user is watching.

As a sign that Netflix wants to go beyond movies and series, the new menu will also promote live events and games, especially for users who show interest in this type of content.

The new interface was presented by Product Director Eunice Kim and Technology Director Elizabeth Stone during the first virtual event of the company aimed at “Product and Technology”. Kim said the company has been working on this new page since last year and that changes will be implemented “in the coming weeks and months.”

Netflix’s first step in looking for Generative AI will be an optional beta testing on cell phones. Users will be able to look for content using natural phrases, such as “I want something funny and light.”

The vertical feed of video, which will be tested in the coming weeks, will feature Netflix series and movies in short format, allowing users to discover new content rolling the screen – with the option to watch the complete content with just one touch.

The announcement comes less than three weeks after Netflix released record profits in the last quarter, which helped reassure investors in the face of economic uncertainties caused by Trump government tariffs.

Interestingly, the news was revealed just over a week before Netflix’s upfront event on May 14, in which the company will present its new programming to advertisers. Although Kim claims that “change was not planned to influence the event,” the new visual identity, coupled with the platform’s good recent performance, will certainly arouse enthusiasm – even in a still cautious advertising scenario.
