The streaming platform Netflix announced this Sunday (1) that it has decided to stop working on the animated series by Meghan Markle, “Pearl” while reviewing the content.
The cancellation of several projects, including Meghan’s, is part of strategic decisions in the production of animated series, the company said in a statement, without providing further details on its decision.
THE Archewell Productions , the company formed by Markle and her husband, Britain’s Prince Harry, said last year that it would executive produce “Pearl”. The series centers on the adventures of a 12-year-old girl who draws inspiration from influential women in history.
Archewell did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Netflix also decided not to go ahead with the two animated children’s series “Dino Daycare” and “Boons and Curses”.
The decision to cancel those jobs comes after Netflix reported a loss of 200,000 subscribers in the first quarter, falling well short of its forecast of adding 2.5 million.
Last year, Netflix extended a deal for animated films with Universal Pictures, a subsidiary of Comcast, a move that was supposed to help Netflix retain child viewers.
Netflix said Sunday that it will continue to work on projects with Archewell, including the previously announced documentary series “Heart of Invictus.”
