Dutch rail workers will go on a nationwide strike tomorrow as a standoff between unions and state-owned NS Railways over pay rises escalates.
Only trains to and from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and those of international companies Thalys and Eurostar will run, NS Railways said in a statement.
This is the first time that the state-owned company’s routes have been canceled across the country. Last week there were three strike actions at the regional level.
Unions are protesting the suspension of negotiations on the collective labor agreement. In 2020 the company employed 38,600 workers. Among the unionists’ main demands are an increase in the basic salary by 100 euros per month and the establishment of a minimum hourly compensation of 14 euros.
