Two people were killed when a gunman stormed a McDonald’s restaurant in the northeastern Dutch town of Zwolle today, according to police and the country’s media.
“Two people were killed in a shooting incident,” Dutch police said in a Twitter post. The local radio station RTV Oost reported that the attack took place around 6 pm (local time).
Eyewitnesses reported that the victims were eating when the gunman entered the restaurant and shot them, in a – apparently – “targeted” attack.
The perpetrator then fled. Police and ambulances rushed to the scene. Rescuers tried to keep one of the two people shot alive, but he eventually succumbed to his injuries.
The Dutch police appealed to anyone who was an eyewitness to testify, cordoned off the area and searched for the perpetrator. A police helicopter was involved in the search, among others.
