The Dutch government is expected to decide within the month whether to further fill the country’s largest natural gas storage facility, officials said on Tuesday, Reuters reports.
All Dutch natural gas storage facilities are currently around 70% full on average, as part of the drive to meet the European Union’s target of 80% full by November.
Filling of the largest facility, the Norg storage unit near the Groningen gas field, has temporarily stopped after reaching the 80% mark of around 5 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas, a finance ministry spokesman said.
The Dutch cabinet has said it wants gas reserves to be filled to more than 80% due to the uncertainty caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
