Natural gas use in the Netherlands fell by 25% in the first half of 2022, the country’s statistics office said, with the biggest cuts coming from heavy industry businesses due to high prices.
In particular, Statistics Netherlands said natural gas use stood at around 17.6 billion cubic meters, up from 23.5 billion cubic meters in the same period last year, with less natural gas via pipeline from Germany and much more than vessels in the form of LNG.
The use of natural gas in the country’s chemical industry decreased by 32% and in electricity generation by 28%. Greenhouse use – a particularly important consumer in the Netherlands – fell by 23%, while domestic use was also reduced by around 16%.
