Netherlands: Women take over almost half of the country’s ministries in the new government

Women will take over 14 of the 29 ministries of Ολλανδίας, in the fourth government under the Prime Minister Mark Rutte, which is to be sworn in on 10 January. The names and portfolios that each person will take over were announced yesterday by the four parties that make up Rutte’s coalition government.

THE Dylan Jesilgoz-Zegerius, born in Ankara, will take over the Ministry of Justice and Security. The 43-year-old politician, who settled in the Netherlands as a child, was nominated by the center-right People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), to which Rutte belongs.

The current Minister of the Interior Katza Olongren will be the new Minister of Defense.

Christian Democrat politician Vopke Hukstra will be the new foreign minister.

The Ministry of Finance held by Houkstra will be taken over by the former Foreign Minister Zigrid Kaag from the center-left party D66. The KGB resigned from its previous post following the chaotic withdrawal of Dutch troops from Afghanistan in September.

After many months negotiations to form a coalition government -the longest in the history of the Netherlands- the four ruling parties that formed the previous government and will form the next one, reached an agreement in December.

The parties, according to the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency, have agreed to invest billions in the fight against climate change and move on social policy and housing reforms.
